Grimstroke vs Sniper

How this matchup plays

Controlling the map against a Sniper presents a unique problem for Grimstroke. Most of Grimstroke's value comes from punishing teams that group up, primarily with Soulbind. Sniper, however, deliberately positions himself far away from his teammates, making him an incredibly difficult target to latch to anyone else. Even if Grimstroke finds an angle on a different target, Sniper can easily shoot down the Phantom's Embrace from a safe distance before it has any impact. This neutralizes a lot of the lockdown potential Grimstroke usually offers against a high-priority backliner.

The matchup often becomes a long-range stalemate. Grimstroke can use Stroke of Fate to clear waves and apply pressure from afar, which can be effective for slowing down Sniper's tower pushes. In teamfights, Grimstroke is rarely the one who can initiate a kill on Sniper. Instead, he has to rely on his cores with gap close to do the work, trying to follow up if they succeed. Meanwhile, Sniper is free to chip away at Grimstroke’s frontline. The fight often comes down to which team's initiators can get the jump first, as neither of these two heroes can effectively start a fight on the other.
