Grimstroke vs Windranger

How this matchup plays

Trying to be slippery as Windranger feels awful against a good Grimstroke. Her main defensive tool, Windrun, does absolutely nothing to stop his spells from connecting. A single Phantom's Embrace will latch on, silencing her and preventing any escape while her team is forced to stop and attack it. Likewise, Ink Swell provides area control that she can't simply phase through or evade with movement speed. Grimstroke effectively removes the evasiveness that Windranger relies on to survive, making her a much easier target for his entire team to follow up on.

This dynamic holds true for the whole game. During ganks, a well-timed Soulbind can completely ruin Windranger’s positioning, often leashing her to the very ally she was trying to set up a Shackleshot with. She can’t use Windrun to break the tether or reposition freely once she’s caught. This pressure forces the Windranger to either buy an early Black King Bar to have any agency in fights or to play so defensively that she offers very little threat, giving Grimstroke’s team control of the map.
