Grimstroke vs Winter Wyvern

How this matchup plays

Saving an ally with Cold Embrace feels a lot less safe against a Grimstroke. Winter Wyvern’s primary save blocks physical damage, but Grimstroke's entire kit deals magic damage. This means a hero latched by Phantom’s Embrace or caught in an Ink Swell will continue taking damage and be stunned even while being healed. Soulbind further complicates saves, as it can bind the intended save target to another hero, creating a second high-value target. Winter Wyvern simply doesn't have enough tools to protect two heroes at once from a coordinated magic burst, making her saves feel less impactful.

Throughout the game, this dynamic forces Winter Wyvern to play reactively. Grimstroke wants to get a good Soulbind and follow up with his team, knowing that Wyvern’s Cold Embrace won’t stop the kill. A well-played Winter Wyvern can still turn a fight by using Winter's Curse on Grimstroke or his core before the combo lands, but she's often forced to use her ultimate defensively. Grimstroke can pressure multiple targets and strain Wyvern's positional cooldowns, giving his team a small but consistent edge in pickoffs and teamfights.
