Gyrocopter vs Skywrath Mage

How this matchup plays

Picking Gyrocopter into a Skywrath Mage is a choice you usually end up regretting. Skywrath’s whole game is unloading a massive amount of single-target magic damage, and Gyrocopter is a fragile hero with no inherent way to survive it. Once hit by Ancient Seal, Gyrocopter is silenced and takes amplified spell damage, leaving him unable to use Call Down or even try to fight back as Mystic Flare melts his health bar. There's no good way for Gyrocopter to dodge this combo or trade favorably against the constant, long-range harassment from Arcane Bolt.

This pressure starts in the lane and defines the entire match. Throughout the mid-game, Skywrath Mage can effectively delete Gyrocopter from a fight before he gets to contribute with Flak Cannon. The Gyrocopter player is forced to react by buying an early Black King Bar or other defensive items, which significantly slows down the timing of his core damage items. Meanwhile, the Skywrath's plan is simple: get vision, find the Gyrocopter, and repeat the kill combo. It forces the Gyro to play from behind and hope his team can create enough space for him to recover.
