Gyrocopter vs Tidehunter

How this matchup plays

Picking Gyrocopter into a potential Tidehunter feels like a huge gamble. The matchup is defined by Tidehunter’s ability to completely shut down what Gyrocopter wants to do. Anchor Smash cripples the damage output from Flak Cannon, making Gyrocopter far less of a threat in teamfights. Before that, Tidehunter is so durable that he can walk through Rocket Barrage and Homing Missile attempts without much fear. Even if Gyrocopter lands some control on him, the dispel from Kraken Shell can often remove the setup. Ultimately, Tidehunter has Ravage, a massive stun that Gyrocopter has no natural way to dodge and which goes through spell immunity.

Throughout the game, Gyrocopter is forced to play from behind. Tidehunter makes the lane difficult with his high health pool and damage reduction, then proceeds to invalidate Gyrocopter’s impact in mid-game fights with a simple Blink Dagger and Ravage. A farmed Gyrocopter still finds his damage neutered by a well-placed Anchor Smash in the late game. For the Gyrocopter player, it becomes a constant, frustrating battle of trying to position perfectly around Ravage and Anchor Smash, while the Tidehunter can confidently frontline for his team and make Gyrocopter’s life miserable.
