Hoodwink vs Pugna

How this matchup plays

Expecting to blow up Pugna with a full combo is usually a mistake for Hoodwink. Her entire kit is based on casting multiple spells in quick succession, which plays right into Nether Ward. Every spell she casts to set up her kill attempt drains her own resources and hurts her badly. Even if she gets her stun and ultimate off, Pugna can often survive the initial burst and turn the fight completely by starting his Life Drain. This creates a strange dynamic where Hoodwink's standard aggression is punished, forcing her to approach fights in a completely different way than she is used to.

The matchup becomes a game of positioning and interruption. Hoodwink has the tools to win, but it requires patience. Scurry is excellent for breaking line of sight to cancel Life Drain, and Bushwhack can stop his channeling cold. A successful Hoodwink has to play from the trees, waiting for the perfect moment to stun Pugna before he can place his Ward or target an ally. Pugna, on the other hand, wants to force fights in open areas where he can maintain vision and punish her spellcasting. The fight often goes to whoever gets the jump.
