Invoker vs Queen of Pain

How this matchup plays

Trying to jump on Invoker with Blink is often a mistake for Queen of Pain. A quick Cold Snap can lock her in place the moment she arrives, turning her aggression into an easy kill for Invoker or a rotating support. This forces her to play with more respect than she'd like. Furthermore, Invoker’s common item progression includes tools that can dispel the slow from Shadow Strike, neutralizing one of her main sources of lane pressure and kill setup. Her entire game plan of using high mobility to secure kills is made riskier by Invoker's ability to punish her from afar with Sun Strike.

This dynamic means Queen of Pain has a difficult choice: play her aggressive style and risk getting counter-initiated, or play passively and let Invoker farm. Invoker is usually content with a passive lane, as his spell combinations scale well into mid-game teamfights where his control becomes very disruptive. Queen of Pain has to find picks on his teammates or hope to bait out his defensive spells before committing with Sonic Wave. Ultimately, Invoker has more ways to control the engagement, which gives him a small but consistent upper hand as the game develops.
