Invoker vs Undying

How this matchup plays

Picking one of these heroes into the other is a direct challenge over who controls the pace of a teamfight. Undying wants to overwhelm enemies with zombies from his Tombstone, creating chaos that makes it hard to land combos. An Exort-focused Invoker, however, has the perfect tools to deal with this. Spells like Chaos Meteor can clear the Tombstone and its zombies from a safe distance, effectively neutralizing Undying’s biggest threat. The risk is that Undying's Decay saps strength, making a fragile hero like Invoker incredibly easy to burst down if he gets caught even slightly out of position.

The entire matchup often boils down to a game of cooldowns and positioning. A good Undying will try to bait out Invoker's spells before dropping Tombstone, or place it on high ground where it's difficult to target. The Invoker, in turn, has to anticipate this and hold his spells for the right moment. If Invoker can manage to stay safe on the edge of the fight and use his global presence to pick off heroes, he can avoid Undying's pressure. But if Undying gets on top of him with Flesh Golem, Invoker has little chance to escape.
