Invoker vs Vengeful Spirit

How this matchup plays

Expecting to land a full combo on Vengeful Spirit is often a mistake. Her kit is fundamentally designed to disrupt the exact spell sequences Invoker needs to be effective. A well-timed Nether Swap can instantly pull Invoker out of a safe position right as he's casting Meteor, or it can save the ally he just lifted with Tornado. Even if he gets close, her simple point-and-click stun from Magic Missile is a reliable way to interrupt a crucial spell cast. Her whole design is about breaking the careful setup that Invoker's teamfight contributions rely on.

This dynamic forces the Invoker to play with extreme caution. He has to constantly be aware of where Vengeful Spirit is and whether her Swap is available. He can't safely commit his big spells until she uses it on someone else, which a smart Venge player will often avoid doing. She creates a persistent threat that complicates his positioning and timing. While Invoker has the tools to deal with many heroes, Vengeful Spirit presents a simple, consistent problem that is difficult for him to play around for the entire game.
