Kunkka vs Mars

How this matchup plays

Controlling the map and out-farming Mars is straightforward for Kunkka because his kit dismantles the core of what Mars wants to accomplish. Tidebringer allows Kunkka to safely secure last hits and harass from a distance, punishing Mars for trying to approach the wave. The real issue is X Marks the Spot. It completely neutralizes Mars’s initiation and escape attempts. Even a perfect Arena of Blood setup can be nullified by Kunkka X-marking an entrapped ally and returning them to safety. This fundamental interaction makes it incredibly difficult for Mars to execute his game plan and turn fights.

This dynamic gives Kunkka a significant head start coming out of the laning stage, letting him hit his key items much faster. In mid-game teamfights, the Mars player is forced into an awkward position. He either has to commit Arena of Blood and hope Kunkka doesn’t have X ready, or hold his ultimate indefinitely, waiting for an opening that might never come. Kunkka gets to dictate the terms of engagement simply by having his spell available, making it tough for the Mars team to take objectives or win decisive brawls.
