Legion Commander vs Mars

How this matchup plays

Trapping Legion Commander inside Arena of Blood seems like a good plan, but it often backfires. Mars relies on his Spear of Mars stun and God's Rebuke slow to control fights, both of which Legion Commander can instantly remove with Press the Attack. This lets her close the distance and get past his front-facing Bulwark protection. Once she's on top of a target, her Duel completely ignores the purpose of Arena of Blood. Instead of controlling a teamfight, the arena wall can actually help Legion Commander by blocking aid from Mars's teammates, turning his ultimate into a private dueling pit for her.

As the game moves into the mid-game, Legion Commander dictates the pace. She can initiate with a Blink Dagger before Mars can set up a favorable fight for his team. If Mars tries to use Arena of Blood defensively, he might trap himself with a Legion Commander who is more than happy to take that one-on-one fight. Mars is then forced to rely on his team to burst her down during the Duel, but his own ultimate often prevents them from contributing effectively. He ends up playing a reactive game, trying to save allies from a threat his kit isn't built to handle.
