Picking a support into an Outworld Destroyer means thinking about how to survive his lane pressure and his single-target focus in fights. Lich brings a tool that directly undermines what OD wants to do. The main point of friction is Frost Shield. A hero like Outworld Destroyer, who relies on sustained right-clicks from Arcane Orb to kill a target, finds his damage output significantly reduced and his attack speed slowed by a basic ability. This makes it much harder for him to secure kills on shielded targets throughout the game.

The effect is felt right from the laning stage, where Frost Shield can protect a core from OD’s constant harass. This often neutralizes the lane dominance OD needs to get ahead. In mid-game teamfights, Lich can repeatedly apply the shield to whichever ally OD tries to burst down, buying time for escapes or turnarounds. For the Outworld Destroyer player, it means you can't simply run at your preferred target. You either have to hope your team can remove Lich first, build items to specifically purge the shield, or accept that your primary targets will be much more durable than usual.
