Lich vs Primal Beast

How this matchup plays

Picking a support to handle Primal Beast often means finding a way to stop his momentum. Lich offers a straightforward answer by layering multiple sources of slow. A combination of Frost Blast and Frost Shield makes it much more difficult for Primal Beast to build up speed with Onslaught or stay on top of a target with Trample. The damage reduction from Frost Shield also helps an ally survive the initial impact if Primal does manage to connect. This constant kiting potential can frustrate a hero who relies on closing the distance to be effective.

The matchup becomes a game of managing cooldowns. Primal Beast will look for opportunities to charge when Frost Shield is down or use Uproar to shrug off the slows before committing with Pulverize. Lich, on his end, needs to position carefully in fights to peel for his cores without getting caught himself. While Lich makes Primal Beast's life harder, a well-timed initiation or a Black King Bar can still let Primal Beast ignore the slows and run over the back lines. The advantage is there, but it requires Lich to play reactively and land his spells at the right moment.
