Lich vs Shadow Demon

How this matchup plays

Saving an ally from Chain Frost with Disruption seems like the obvious move. The problem is that Disruption creates two illusions right next to the original hero, which is the perfect setup for Lich. His ultimate bounces between the real hero and their own illusions, dealing massive damage to a single isolated target. Even outside of that specific interaction, Frost Shield is a solid defensive tool that reduces the physical damage from any illusions Shadow Demon creates with his spells, weakening his overall impact in a fight and making his setups less threatening.

This dynamic makes teamfights incredibly difficult for the Shadow Demon player. He is forced to choose between letting an ally die to focus fire or using his best save spell to make Lich's ultimate even stronger. A smart Lich will anticipate this and intentionally throw Chain Frost on a key target, baiting the Disruption. Shadow Demon's best bet is to use his spells offensively to try and burst a target before Lich can react, but the combination of Frost Shield and Sinister Gaze gives Lich plenty of tools to protect his own team.
