Lich vs Skywrath Mage

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst a target with Mystic Flare becomes less reliable when Lich is on the other team. The moment Skywrath Mage commits Ancient Seal, Lich can cast Frost Shield on that same hero. The damage reduction is often enough to let them survive the full combo, which directly undermines Skywrath's main contribution to a fight. This interaction forces Skywrath to either find a different target or hope the shield is on cooldown. The slow from Frost Shield also makes it harder for Skywrath's team to chase and secure the kill if the initial burst fails.

This matchup becomes a test of reflexes and positioning. The Skywrath player will look for opportunities to silence Lich first, preventing the Frost Shield save entirely. A patient Skywrath might also try to bait the shield onto a less important target before committing his ultimate. For his part, Lich needs to stay far enough back to avoid being the initial target but close enough to protect his cores.
