Lich vs Slardar

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst down a priority target as Slardar can feel like running into a wall against Lich. The moment you commit with Corrosive Haze, a Frost Shield often appears on your target, blunting your physical damage and slowing your attack speed. This protective spell makes it difficult for Slardar to secure the quick kills he relies on. The reverse is also true, however. Lich is extremely fragile and has no real escape mechanism. If Slardar can get a clean initiation directly onto Lich with a Blink Dagger and Slithereen Crush, the support can be taken out of the fight before he can react.

This tension dictates how teamfights play out. Slardar's team wants to play aggressively, forcing fights around his pickoff potential. Lich’s team has to play more defensively, staying grouped to benefit from his protection and waiting for the enemy to commit. Ultimately, the outcome often hinges on positioning and reaction time. A fight can be won or lost based on whether Slardar can catch Lich out of position, or if Lich can successfully cast Frost Shield to save an ally and turn the initiation around with a big Chain Frost.
