Lich vs Techies

How this matchup plays

Laning against a Techies seems like it should be straightforward for Lich, but it rarely is. The slows from Frost Blast and Frost Shield are good for controlling a lane, but they do little to stop Blast Off! from happening. Techies can leap from the trees, landing a silence that completely shuts down Lich's ability to respond or help an ally. On the other hand, a well-timed Frost Shield on the target of that jump can absorb a huge amount of the follow-up burst damage. The shield also slows any enemies who try to attack the protected hero, which can make it very difficult for Techies' team to secure the kill.

This back-and-forth continues all game. Techies tries to find an angle to jump in and silence Lich before a big Chain Frost can be cast, disrupting the whole teamfight. Lich, in turn, focuses on positioning and keeping his cores alive with defensive shields. Both heroes are also excellent at defending high ground and controlling space, with Proximity Mines and Chain Frost making it dangerous for either team to push carelessly. The matchup often comes down to which hero’s team is better at setting up vision and initiating fights on their preferred terms.
