Lich vs Ursa

How this matchup plays

Trying to close the gap on a hero is Ursa's entire game plan, and Lich dismantles it at every step. The damage reduction from Frost Shield directly counters the rapid physical burst from Overpower, making it incredibly difficult for Ursa to secure kills on shielded targets. Even if he gets close, Lich has multiple slows from Frost Blast and the shield's pulses to kite him endlessly. Should Ursa commit too hard, Sinister Gaze can pull him out of position, and Chain Frost punishes any attempt to fight near his own allies.

This dynamic starts in the lane, where Lich can protect his core and harass Ursa away from the wave. Later, Ursa's main objective is to jump a key hero, but a well-timed Frost Shield will completely neuter his damage output. Ursa is forced to buy a Black King Bar, but the shield's damage reduction pierces spell immunity, leaving him with a serious problem. His best hope is to find and kill Lich before he can cast his spells, while Lich focuses on positioning to stay safe and protect whichever ally Ursa decides to target.
