How this matchup plays

Seeing Warlock’s Golem on the field feels like a lost fight, but the opposite is often true for Lich. Warlock's game plan relies on grouping enemies with his ultimate and Fatal Bonds. This clustering creates an ideal setup for Chain Frost, letting it bounce between bonded heroes and the Golem for massive effect. Beyond that, Lich can use Sinister Gaze to mesmerize the Golem, completely neutralizing it for a few crucial seconds. Frost Shield on the Golem’s target further reduces Warlock's impact, giving Lich multiple tools to dismantle the big teamfight spell.

This dynamic leads to a game of cat and mouse. Lich wants to hang back, waiting for Chaotic Offering to be used so he can counter-initiate and turn the fight. A smart Warlock knows this and will try to find and drop his ultimate directly on Lich to prevent any counterplay. The advantage for Lich is having specific answers to Warlock's primary strategy. However, if Warlock gets the jump, his stun and Golem are more than enough to win the fight, which keeps the matchup from becoming too one-sided.
