How this matchup plays

Thinking Rage is a simple answer to Night Stalker's control is a common trap. The real issue is that Night Stalker often gets the jump, especially at night. A quick Void slows Lifestealer down, making it easy for Night Stalker to follow up with Crippling Fear. Once silenced, Lifestealer can't use Rage to gain magic immunity, nor can he use Infest to escape. He's left a sitting duck for a few crucial seconds, often long enough for Night Stalker and his team to secure the kill.

This dynamic gives Night Stalker control over the game's tempo. During the first night cycle, he can actively hunt and disrupt a Lifestealer who is still trying to farm his core items. The Lifestealer player is forced to play much more defensively, grouping with his team or avoiding dangerous areas of the map he'd normally be farming. Winning fights for Lifestealer often depends on either anticipating the gank and using Rage preemptively or relying on a teammate's save to survive the initial silence.
