Lifestealer vs Nyx Assassin

How this matchup plays

Picking a setup hero like Nyx Assassin into Lifestealer often feels awkward. The whole point of Nyx is to find a target, stun it with Impale, and follow up with a burst of magic damage from Vendetta and Mana Burn. The problem is Lifestealer's Rage, which completely negates that entire sequence. A Lifestealer who gets jumped can pop his spell immunity, ignore the stun and damage, and then turn on the fragile Nyx. This single ability forces Nyx to reconsider his primary role whenever Lifestealer is on the map.

As the game develops, this dynamic puts the burden on the Nyx Assassin player. He has to play around the Rage cooldown, either by baiting it out, waiting for it to be used on a teammate, or avoiding Lifestealer entirely. Lifestealer, meanwhile, gets to play with much more confidence, knowing their main ganker can't lock him down. A well-timed Spiked Carapace from Nyx can punish an unattentive Lifestealer, but the fundamental advantage remains with the hero who can decide to ignore the other's whole kit.
