How this matchup plays

Drafting these heroes into each other creates an interesting tension. While they have a famous synergy when allied, Lifestealer's core abilities directly counter Phoenix's entire spell kit when they are opponents. Rage makes Lifestealer immune to the magic damage from Fire Spirits and Sun Ray, letting him close the distance without being burned down. This same magic immunity means he can freely attack the Supernova without fear of the stun upon its completion. Lifestealer is one of the best heroes for reliably destroying the egg.

The matchup becomes a game of cooldowns and positioning. The Phoenix player has to play carefully, using Icarus Dive to create space and trying to bait out Rage before committing Supernova. If Fire Spirits land before Lifestealer Rages, their attack speed slow can be a major problem. However, the Lifestealer player often has the initiative, able to save Rage for the perfect moment to ignore Phoenix's teamfight control and secure a kill on the egg or a high-value support.
