Lifestealer vs Sand King

How this matchup plays

Getting run at by Lifestealer is a nightmare for Sand King. The problem is Rage, which lets Lifestealer ignore all of Sand King's key abilities. Burrowstrike won't stun him, Sand Storm is no deterrent, and even a full Epicenter will do no damage. This turns one of the game's best initiators into a hero with very few tools to peel or escape from a Lifestealer who decides to target him. The very thing that makes them a great pair on the same team—an Infested Lifestealer popping out of a Burrowstrike—becomes a liability when they are on opposite sides.

Across the game, this dynamic forces Sand King to play defensively and cautiously whenever Lifestealer is a threat. A Lifestealer can treat a channeling Epicenter as an invitation to a free kill, knowing he can stand in the middle of it unharmed and secure the kill before it even finishes. Sand King's main recourse is to play around Rage's cooldown, either baiting it out or waiting for Lifestealer to use it on someone else. Without perfect timing and team coordination, however, Sand King is often forced to use his spells to escape rather than to initiate fights, severely limiting his impact.
