Lifestealer vs Shadow Demon

How this matchup plays

Picking Shadow Demon into a team that might run Lifestealer is a huge risk. The fundamental problem is Rage; Lifestealer can make himself immune to magic, which nullifies Shadow Demon's entire kit. Shadow Poison, the slow from Demonic Purge, and even the setup from Disruption all become useless. Lifestealer wants to run at a fragile target and stick to them, and Shadow Demon is exactly that: a slow support with no natural escape. Once Lifestealer decides to go on him, there’s very little Shadow Demon can do on his own to get away.

Throughout the game, this dynamic forces the Shadow Demon player into a purely defensive posture. He has to position extremely far back, hoping his team can peel for him. His signature spell, Disruption, can’t save a core who is being attacked by a Raging Lifestealer, crippling his utility in fights. Even using Disruption on Lifestealer himself is a poor trade, as it only delays him for a moment and can be prevented if Rage is used first. To have any impact, Shadow Demon is forced to buy survival items like a Force Staff or Ghost Scepter early, delaying his more impactful support items.
