Lina vs Mars

How this matchup plays

Trapping heroes in Arena of Blood is how Mars wins fights, but Lina doesn't need to play his game. She has enough range to attack and cast from outside the wall, safely chipping away while he's stuck inside. Her stun, Light Strike Array, can land on Mars from a distance, interrupting him or setting him up. Even his Bulwark, which is meant to make him durable against right-clicks, does nothing to stop a full-power Laguna Blade from taking him out. His core ability creates a prison that he can't force her into, and her spells punish him for even trying.

This makes mid-game initiations from Mars very risky. A successful Spear of Mars combo into the Arena can still kill Lina, but if he misses or she positions well, he's left exposed. The pressure is on Mars to execute perfectly, often needing a Blink Dagger and help from his team to close the gap. Lina, on the other hand, can simply play from the back lines, forcing him to overextend or pick a different target. This fundamentally limits the effectiveness of Mars throughout the game, as his primary target is often the one hero he has the most trouble locking down.
