Stealing one of Lina's spells with Spell Steal is what defines this matchup for Rubick. Getting a Laguna Blade is the dream, as it can completely reverse a gank or turn a teamfight by deleting a key enemy. Even a stolen Light Strike Array is a high-value stun that any team is happy to have. This potential threat forces the Lina player to constantly think about Rubick’s positioning before committing her own combo. Using her ultimate becomes a risk if she can’t confirm that Spell Steal is on cooldown or that Rubick is out of range, which can lead to hesitation at critical moments.

In reality, the lane often comes down to who makes the first mistake. Lina has the tools to deal with a predictable Rubick. She can bait out Spell Steal with her stun and then follow up with her ultimate, or simply focus on bursting him down first since he is so fragile. If Rubick gets caught out of position by Lina's combo, he’s unlikely to survive long enough to steal anything meaningful.
