Lion vs Lone Druid

How this matchup plays

Finger of Death often struggles to find a good target against Lone Druid. Lion’s entire kit is designed to isolate and eliminate one enemy hero, but the Spirit Bear creates a second high-priority threat that demands attention. Using Hex or Earth Spike on the bear allows the main hero to act freely, while targeting the hero leaves a fully-itemized bear to run rampant. Even if Lion does target the hero with his ultimate, Lone Druid is often tanky enough in True Form to survive the initial burst, especially with defensive items. This forces Lion into a difficult choice where neither option feels particularly efficient.

As the game progresses, this dynamic allows Lone Druid to apply constant pressure. He can send his bear to harass supports like Lion or attack objectives, knowing Lion can't disable both him and his companion at once. Lion's best-case scenario is to coordinate with his team to jump the hero form directly, bursting him down before he can react. A well-timed initiation can still secure a kill, as Lone Druid isn't naturally elusive. However, in a chaotic teamfight, the sheer presence of the bear is usually enough to disrupt Lion's focus and reduce his overall impact.
