Lion vs Shadow Fiend

How this matchup plays

Picking a fragile midlaner like Shadow Fiend means you have to worry about reliable lockdown, and Lion brings exactly that. Both Hex and Earth Spike can hold Shadow Fiend in place long enough for a coordinated burst, which is a huge threat before he can farm up a Black King Bar. Lion’s ability to instantly disable a target from range makes it very difficult for a hero with no natural escape to survive ganks or even find a safe position to farm.

A successful Shadow Fiend game relies on building an early gold lead, but a rotating Lion can completely disrupt that plan. Later on, the threat of an instant Hex can force Shadow Fiend to play from the edges of a fight, often preventing him from getting a good Requiem of Souls. Still, the matchup isn't one-sided. A farmed Shadow Fiend with a BKB can often blow up the equally-squishy Lion before he can react. It really comes down to who gets the jump, but Lion’s kit gives him a more direct way to start that engagement.
