How this matchup plays

Stopping a Primal Beast from running over your team often comes down to instant lockdown, which is exactly what Lion provides. A quick Hex can halt Trample in its tracks, giving your team a window to focus him down before he causes chaos. Earth Spike offers a good follow-up disable as well. Beyond that, Mana Drain is a constant threat to Primal Beast, who relies on having enough resources to cast his spells repeatedly in a teamfight. By keeping him controlled and his mana pool low, Lion directly counters Primal Beast's desire to be a disruptive front-liner.

The matchup often becomes a game of cat and mouse. A well-positioned Lion can make teamfights miserable for the Primal Beast, forcing him to play more cautiously or rush a Black King Bar. However, the advantage is delicate. If Lion is caught out of position or Primal Beast gets the jump on him, Lion has no escape and dies very quickly.
