How this matchup plays

Getting locked down and burst is Puck’s greatest fear, and Lion is built to do exactly that. Puck’s survival hinges on dodging spells with Phase Shift and blinking away with Illusory Orb. Lion's Hex completely denies this. It is an instant, targeted disable that Puck cannot dodge once Lion is in range. This guarantees a follow-up stun from Earth Spike and often a kill with Finger of Death. There is very little room for outplay from the Puck side once caught; Lion’s entire purpose is to delete one evasive hero, and Puck is the perfect target for it.

This dynamic forces Puck to play passively for the whole game, which severely limits their ability to control tempo. Aggressive farming or trying to initiate fights becomes incredibly risky, as a Lion with a Blink Dagger is a constant threat. Puck has to either rush an early defensive item like a Linken's Sphere, slowing their impact, or risk giving up kills that stall their team. Meanwhile, Lion can comfortably control vision and hunt for pickoffs, securing map control and objectives. Puck’s usual game of being a slippery nuisance is shut down before it can even start.
