Lion vs Pudge

How this matchup plays

Getting caught by a Meat Hook is often a death sentence for Lion. He's a slow hero with no real escape, making him an easy target for Pudge to isolate and kill with Dismember. But if Lion has vision of Pudge, the situation reverses completely. An instant Hex or Earth Spike can stop Pudge in his tracks, either canceling his channel or preventing him from initiating at all. Pudge's innate magic resistance from Flesh Heap helps him endure a Finger of Death, but he’s still vulnerable to being locked down and focused.

This duel plays out across the entire game, usually decided by vision and who acts first. A successful hook on Lion can single-handedly win a mid-game teamfight before it even starts. On the other hand, a vigilant Lion can use his disables to save a hooked teammate or catch Pudge out of position. It’s a matchup of initiation versus counter-initiation where neither hero has a built-in advantage. The player who gets the drop on the other one almost always comes out ahead.
