How this matchup plays

Casting Mana Drain on Disruption illusions instantly destroys them, completely negating Shadow Demon's main defensive spell. The target that was supposed to be saved is immediately vulnerable again. This interaction makes it incredibly difficult for Shadow Demon to protect his teammates or set up his own combos. Lion can also Hex either the illusions to stop their damage or the real hero as they reappear, preventing any follow-up. This fundamental clash means Lion always has a direct answer to the spell that defines Shadow Demon's kit.

Throughout a match, this forces the Shadow Demon player into an impossible choice: either hold Disruption and be less useful, or cast it knowing Lion can break the save. Teamfights often hinge on this moment. Since Shadow Demon himself is fragile and lacks mobility, he becomes a primary target for Lion's burst damage combo, and Finger of Death will often be enough to kill him outright. His only recourse is to play far away from Lion, which makes it much harder to land his own spells and cripples his impact.
