How this matchup plays

Trying to lock down a charging Slardar with Lion's disables seems straightforward, but it's often a race against time. Slardar's entire game plan involves getting a Black King Bar, which completely nullifies Lion’s Hex and Earth Spike. Even before that, a well-timed Guardian Sprint can help Slardar close the distance before Lion can get his spells off. Meanwhile, Corrosive Haze makes Lion an extremely squishy target, liable to be deleted the moment he's found. The matchup hinges on which hero gets the jump on the other.

Early on, Lion can bully and control an out-of-position Slardar with help from a lane partner. As Slardar gets his core items like a Blink Dagger, the tables turn. Slardar can now initiate from the fog and burst Lion before he can react, making positioning critical for the support. Lion is forced to play from the back lines, waiting for Slardar to commit his BKB to another target before he can contribute his control.
