Lion vs Techies

How this matchup plays

Trying to set up a gank on Techies can be frustrating for Lion. Techies excels at controlling space with Proximity Mines, making it dangerous for a fragile hero like Lion to walk through choke points or river runes. Even in lane, the constant threat of Sticky Bomb harass can wear Lion down before he gets a chance to use his own spells. If Lion does commit with his disables, Techies can often use Blast Off! to jump away, silencing Lion and preventing a follow-up Finger of Death. The whole engagement pattern favors Techies, who can poke from a distance and deny the close-range lockdown Lion relies on.

Later in the game, Lion's ability to find pickoffs is complicated by well-placed mines around objectives and common jungle paths. Stepping on one can leave Lion too low on health to initiate a fight safely. To win this matchup, Lion needs to prioritize a Blink Dagger to bypass the minefields and get a clean initiation. He also needs his team to help with de-mining to open up the map. It's a manageable problem, but the constant pressure from Techies forces Lion to play more cautiously than he'd like, giving Techies a slight advantage.
