How this matchup plays

Trying to lock down Viper as Lion often feels like a trap. Lion has the instant disables with Hex and Earth Spike to hold Viper in place, setting him up to be burst by a teammate or Finger of Death. The problem is that every spell Lion casts triggers Viper's Corrosive Skin, which means Lion takes damage and gets slowed for doing his job. This can leave Lion vulnerable and make it difficult for his team to follow up effectively. The exchange is rarely clean; Lion can control Viper, but he's guaranteed to suffer for it, making it a very direct and costly trade of resources.

This dynamic creates a constant positioning battle throughout the game. Early on, Lion’s lockdown can secure kills on a slow-moving Viper before he gets too durable. As the game progresses, however, a tanky Viper can often survive Lion’s initial burst and turn the fight, running down the fragile support with slows and damage over time. It all comes down to execution. If Lion catches Viper out and his team is ready, Viper gets deleted. If Lion steps too far forward without immediate backup, he gets melted by poison before he can get his full combo off.
