Magnus vs Outworld Destroyer

How this matchup plays

Choosing Magnus into an Outworld Destroyer means you're betting on your initiation landing perfectly. The entire fight often hinges on whether Astral Imprisonment can be used to counter your setup. Magnus wants to land a multi-hero Reverse Polarity and have his team follow up, but Outworld Destroyer can simply banish the most important target, making them immune to all the damage. This forces Magnus to either catch OD himself in the initial spell or accept that his combo will be partially defused. Additionally, Magnus’s own low mana pool can make him a vulnerable target for Sanity’s Eclipse later in a fight.

This dynamic creates a tense mid and late game. Magnus has to play patiently, often needing a Blink Dagger to get the jump directly on Outworld Destroyer before he can react. If he can't, he has to try and Skewer or RP targets on the edge of the fight, away from OD’s save. For his part, the Outworld Destroyer player must position cautiously behind his own team, ready to instantly cast Astral on whoever Magnus catches. The outcome of a teamfight, and often the game, can depend entirely on which of these two heroes acts faster in that critical moment.
