Magnus vs Clockwerk

How this matchup plays

Picking Magnus into a Clockwerk means accepting your big teamfight spells are always at risk. Clockwerk's entire kit is built to isolate and disrupt a single target, and Magnus is often that target. Getting caught by Hookshot usually means being trapped inside Power Cogs, where Battery Assault will constantly interrupt any attempt to cast Reverse Polarity or Skewer away. Even if Clockwerk doesn't initiate directly on him, Magnus has to be careful with his own positioning, as a well-placed set of Cogs can completely wall him off from a fight or trap him after a Skewer.

This dynamic forces a specific game of cat and mouse. Clockwerk will spend the mid-game hunting Magnus, trying to pick him off before he can find a multi-hero Reverse Polarity. Magnus, on the other hand, must play patiently and use vision to his advantage, often waiting for Clockwerk to commit his Hookshot on another target. If Clockwerk misses or Magnus’s team can quickly break him out of Cogs, Magnus is free to turn the fight. The matchup often comes down to which hero can better control the initiation and dictate who is fighting where.
