Magnus vs Spirit Breaker

How this matchup plays

Lining up the perfect Reverse Polarity feels much riskier with a Spirit Breaker on the other team. His Charge of Darkness gives him a global tool to interrupt Magnus either before the Blink or immediately after, saving his own allies from the follow-up. Even if Magnus lands his ultimate, Spirit Breaker's Bulldoze provides status resistance, letting him recover faster than other heroes and turn the fight back around. Magnus can try to use Horn Toss or Skewer to cancel the charge, but Spirit Breaker has multiple ways to be disruptive.

This creates a constant tension around teamfights. Magnus wants to find a clean initiation with his Blink Dagger, but he always has to worry about where Spirit Breaker is. A good play for Magnus might involve waiting for Spirit Breaker to show on the other side of the map before committing. Otherwise, he risks having his entire setup ruined. While Magnus can certainly Skewer a charging Spirit Breaker to turn the tables, the pressure is usually on Magnus to play perfectly around the constant threat of interruption.
