Magnus vs Viper

How this matchup plays

Laning Magnus against Viper means accepting a hard start. Viper is built to dominate melee heroes, using his poisons and acidic attacks to make every last hit a struggle. Magnus can’t trade blows effectively and has to play defensively. His whole goal is to secure what farm he can with Shockwave from a distance and keep Skewer ready as an escape tool. Magnus isn't trying to win the lane, he's playing to survive until he gets his core items.

The dynamic flips completely once Magnus gets his Blink Dagger. He's no longer concerned with Viper directly. Instead, he focuses on finding a big Reverse Polarity on key targets. Viper's strength lies in slowing and wearing down a single hero, which does little to prevent a multi-hero stun from landing. The game becomes about positioning. If Viper's team groups up, they're vulnerable to the teamfight ultimate. If they spread out to dodge it, they risk getting isolated and Skewered back into danger. This tension between lane pressure and teamfight control makes the matchup feel very level.
