Mars vs Muerta

How this matchup plays

Trapping Muerta in Arena of Blood feels like a guaranteed kill, but it often backfires. When Muerta activates Pierce the Veil, she becomes ethereal and immune to physical damage. This means Mars can't touch her with his regular attacks or God's Rebuke while they're both stuck in his ultimate. She can't attack him either, but the problem is she can freely target any of Mars's allies who are also caught inside the Arena. Mars's biggest teamfight ability creates a safe zone for an enemy carry to pick off his own team, leaving him able to do little besides attempt a Spear of Mars.

This dynamic gives Muerta a slight advantage throughout the game. Mars has to be extremely careful about his Arena commitments once Muerta has her ultimate. He either needs to bait out Pierce the Veil first or catch her without it, which is difficult. Muerta, on the other hand, can play reactively. She can position aggressively, knowing that Mars's ultimate isn't a reliable lockdown against her. The fight often comes down to this cooldown mind-game, and Muerta's ability to turn Mars's signature spell into a liability for his team gives her the upper hand.
