Mars vs Nyx Assassin

How this matchup plays

Picking Mars when Nyx Assassin is available is a major risk, as his entire kit seems designed to dismantle you. The core of the problem lies in Spiked Carapace, which perfectly counters Mars's most important spells. Trying to land a Spear of Mars or use God's Rebuke for damage will often result in you stunning yourself, completely turning the tables. Furthermore, Mars is a strength hero who desperately needs mana to function. Nyx Assassin can drain that small mana pool to nothing with Mana Burn, leaving you unable to cast Arena of Blood or even escape.

This dynamic makes the game miserable for Mars from start to finish. During the laning stage, he's unable to trade or farm effectively without being punished. Later on, his big teamfight contribution with Arena of Blood becomes a huge liability. A patient Nyx will simply wait for the Arena, then walk in and use Carapace to disable Mars inside his own ultimate. To have any impact, the Mars player is forced into a reactive posture, needing vision of Nyx at all times and often requiring teammates to bait out his spells before committing to a fight.
