Mars vs Pudge

How this matchup plays

Picking Mars into an enemy Pudge often feels like an uphill battle from the start. Pudge’s kit directly answers the main things Mars wants to do. The most obvious problem is Meat Hook, which can pull an ally to safety right out of Arena of Blood, completely negating Mars’s ultimate. Even without a save, Pudge can use Dismember to lock Mars down through his Bulwark, bypassing his main defensive tool. The auras clash as well; Rot slows Mars down, making it harder for him to position for a good Spear of Mars.

Throughout the game, this dynamic forces the Mars player to be reactive. What looks like a perfect Arena setup can be instantly ruined by a single hook, pulling the primary target out and leaving Mars hitting air. This puts immense pressure on Mars to land a perfect stun on Pudge before he can act, but Pudge’s natural tankiness from Flesh Heap makes him a difficult hero to burst down. Pudge, on the other hand, has the luxury of choosing whether to save his allies or simply disable Mars and let his team do the work.
