Mars vs Techies

How this matchup plays

Controlling teamfight areas with Arena of Blood becomes a huge liability when playing against Techies. Mars wants to trap enemies for his team, but Techies simply fills the Arena with Proximity Mines and Stasis Traps, turning Mars's signature spell into a kill box for his own allies. Even trying to tank damage is pointless, as Bulwark offers no protection from the mines exploding at his feet. The entire Techies kit feels designed to punish the exact way Mars wants to start and win a fight, fundamentally breaking his game plan.

As the game progresses, this forces Mars into a terrible position. He can't safely initiate with Arena, so his primary way of setting up ganks and objective fights is gone. He is forced to look for awkward skirmishes where Techies isn't present, or use his ultimate defensively. Meanwhile, Techies is free to establish his own map control, pushing out lanes and securing areas with mines. Mars can’t create space for his team and instead finds himself getting slowly choked off the map by an opponent he can do very little about.
