Morphling vs Necrophos

How this matchup plays

Getting jumped by Necrophos feels like a no-win scenario for Morphling. The core mechanic of shifting attributes to survive burst damage plays directly into Necrophos's hands. A high-Agility, low-health Morphling is vulnerable to a quick Reaper's Scythe, which stuns and prevents him from morphing Strength to escape. If he shifts to high Strength preemptively, he takes massive damage from Heartstopper Aura, which scales with his max health. On top of that, Ghost Shroud makes Necrophos immune to Morphling's physical attacks, completely neutralizing his damage output at a critical moment.

The problems start in the laning phase, where Necrophos can bully and deny farm, and continue well into the mid-game. Morphling has to play with extreme caution, as any misstep can lead to him getting picked off by the Scythe before a teamfight even starts. He needs specific defensive items like a Black King Bar or Linken's Sphere much earlier than he would like, slowing down his own power curve. Necrophos, meanwhile, can play aggressively, confident that he holds a direct counter to the enemy's carry. Morphling’s best hope is for his team to lock down and burst Necrophos before he can react.
