How this matchup plays

Getting a clean jump on Muerta can feel awkward for Tusk. His main burst combo relies heavily on the physical damage from Walrus Punch, but Muerta can turn ethereal with Pierce the Veil to become immune to it. This forces him to rely on his spells for damage, which often isn't enough to finish the job alone. Furthermore, if Muerta anticipates his initiation, she can place The Calling to silence and slow him, disrupting his ability to follow up on a Snowball or escape after using his spells. She has a specific tool that directly counters his primary goal.

This matchup often revolves around cooldowns. A successful Tusk has to play patiently, either baiting out Pierce the Veil or waiting for Muerta to use it on someone else before he commits to a kill attempt. He can also use Snowball defensively to save an ally she's focusing.
