Necrophos vs Templar Assassin

How this matchup plays

Picking a hero like Templar Assassin into a Necrophos is asking for a hard game from the start. TA relies on Refraction to absorb damage instances and trade effectively, but Necrophos completely bypasses that defense. Heartstopper Aura constantly drains her health without ever touching her shield, making it impossible for her to stay in lane or a fight for long. On top of that, Necrophos’s frequent Death Pulse spam burns through Refraction charges very quickly, leaving her with no protection against follow-up damage from him or his team. Her entire defensive mechanic is fundamentally countered by his basic kit.

This problem gets worse as the game goes on. Templar Assassin wants to find pickoffs with Meld, but jumping Necrophos is a trap. He can use Ghost Shroud to become immune to her physical burst, heal himself, and then turn with Reaper's Scythe. She's forced to either build a BKB earlier than she'd like, slowing her damage output, or avoid him entirely, which is hard when he's leading the enemy push. Necrophos naturally builds items that make him tanky against her damage type, while she has few options to survive his sustained magical and pure damage.
