Shadow Fiend vs Phantom Assassin

How this matchup plays

Playing from behind as Shadow Fiend is especially difficult against a Phantom Assassin. She can use Phantom Strike to instantly close the distance, which is a major problem for a hero with no escape. A single Stifling Dagger can also be enough of a slow to set up a gank on the fragile Shadow Fiend. Later in the game, Phantom Assassin’s Blur makes it very hard for a right-click SF to fight back without committing an item slot to a Monkey King Bar. This forces SF to play around his team and his positioning much more carefully than he might want to.

That said, Shadow Fiend has the tools to win this matchup by dominating the early game. With Shadowraze, he can control the lane, secure a farm advantage, and build a lead that Phantom Assassin can't catch up to. A magic-heavy build centered on Requiem of Souls can also be effective, as its damage completely ignores Blur. The outcome often depends on whether SF can use his laning strength to snowball. If he can’t create enough pressure early, PA will find opportunities to jump and eliminate him in teamfights.
