Shadow Fiend vs Pugna

How this matchup plays

Seeing Pugna on the enemy team looks like a counter, but the situation is more complicated. Pugna's Decrepify does stop a physical Shadow Fiend from attacking, which is a problem. The catch is that it also makes the target take much more magic damage. This means a poorly timed Decrepify can set up a devastating Requiem of Souls or Shadowraze combo. A Nether Ward will punish Shadow Fiend for spamming his spells to farm and fight, but a farmed SF can often ignore the damage if it means securing a kill.

The contest often comes down to timing and which hero’s team better understands the interaction. A good Pugna player saves Decrepify for his own allies to prevent SF's right-clicks. A smart Shadow Fiend waits for that exact moment to unload his spells on the Ethereal target. Both heroes are fragile and rely heavily on positioning to be effective. A single misstep from either side can swing a fight, but neither hero has a clear, inherent advantage over the other across the entire game.
