Shadow Fiend vs Timbersaw

How this matchup plays

Fighting into a Timbersaw usually means chewing through his Reactive Armor, which makes him incredibly tough against physical damage. Shadow Fiend completely sidesteps this problem. The vast majority of his damage, from early game Shadowraze spam to a full Requiem of Souls, is magical. Timbersaw has no natural way to mitigate this kind of burst, making his signature defensive ability almost useless against a magic-focused Shadow Fiend. Even a right-clicking SF build benefits from the high base magic damage on his spells, ensuring Timbersaw is always under threat.

This dynamic lets Shadow Fiend control the pace from the start. In lane, he can harass and farm freely without feeding Timbersaw stacks of Reactive Armor. Later on, Timbersaw can't play his usual game of diving into the enemy team and absorbing punishment. He's forced to respect the threat of being instantly deleted by an SF combo, making him build defensively or play from the sidelines. Timbersaw’s only real option is to try and catch Shadow Fiend out of position with a Timber Chain, but a well-positioned SF is a nightmare he can't frontline against.
