Shadow Fiend vs Templar Assassin

How this matchup plays

Trying to manage Refraction charges against a Shadow Fiend is a constant headache. His Shadowraze combo provides multiple damage instances to burn through the shield, opening Templar Assassin up for right-clicks and a follow-up Raze. However, a misstep from Shadow Fiend gets punished hard by Psi Blades, which can easily keep his soul count low and harass him from a safe distance. Both heroes rely on getting an early farm advantage to hit their item timings, and each has the exact tools to disrupt the other's plan, making the lane incredibly volatile.

The winner of that initial luring contest often snowballs to take over the game. A successful Templar Assassin gets her core damage items and begins hunting for solo kills across the map, making it impossible for Shadow Fiend to farm safely. A farmed Shadow Fiend, however, can flash-farm the map, push down towers, and deliver a devastating Requiem of Souls in teamfights that TA can't stand up to. The matchup feels like a coin flip because it's a race to see who can execute their game plan first, with the loser often being left far behind.
